Rarangi House

The client’s brief was to renovate the home to take full advantage of its stunning beachside setting, while shifting the primary living spaces downstairs to enhance day-to-day connection with both the landscape and outdoor areas. The design focused on improving the structural integrity and resolving the previously piecemeal layout, alongside a complete upgrade of the kitchen and bathroom spaces.

Material selections carefully balance the relaxed character of a coastal environment with a sense of understated indulgence. A palette of textural, tactile finishes is layered throughout, with stone elements repeated across floors, bathroom walls, and the kitchen benchtop. These are complemented by stained walnut cabinetry and profiled timber linings, bringing depth to create a refined but relaxed interior.

The next stage of the project will extend this experience outdoors, with the design of new living areas around the swimming pool, including an outdoor kitchen and sauna — further enhancing the home’s connection to its coastal setting.
